Fear of Falling (July 19th)
Location: TBD (sport crags close to Squamish)
Max size: 4 participants
Prerequisites: Competent leading a minimum of 5.9 sport outdoors
Every climber experiences fear differently, and from a variety of sources. Sometimes this innate fear is important, it might warn us of a real danger that we need to do something about (ie. fear of falling off and hitting a ledge). Other times, we might not be in danger at all (ie. fear of exposure or the “butterflies in my stomach” sensation).
In this course I’ll share about my personal journey with fear in climbing and tools that have helped me better understand and manage that fear, and I invite participants to share a little about their relationship with fear as well. Then together we’ll try out some possible ways to incorporate positive mental practices into our climbing.
The intention here is not to fight and overcome our fears but to listen to them, accept them and learn how to slowly increase our enjoyment and comfort threshold in a safe and controlled environment.
